This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Sammurai collects, how it is used, when it is shared, how long it is kept, and what rights and choices users may have.

1. Who We Are

Sammurai (“Sammurai”, “Sammy”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) provides an AI-supported application and related services that help users reflect, communicate, create Drops, interact with Circles, receive Sammy-supported prompts and summaries, and use Daily Beat and Live Beat experiences.

2. Scope

This Policy applies to Sammurai websites, apps, dashboards, AI features, Drops, Circles, Daily Beat, Live Beat, communication tools, support channels, and related services that link to this Policy.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Information you provide

This may include account details, profile details, preferences, pronouns, age range, broad location, settings, Drops, responses, comments, messages, reflections, images, GIFs, videos, files, support requests, feedback, and inputs sent to Sammy or other AI-supported features.

3.2 Information collected automatically

This may include device and browser information, IP address and approximate location, timestamps, session activity, app/page/feature usage, diagnostic data, crash/performance logs, and cookie or local-storage data where applicable.

3.3 Information from other sources

We may receive information from authentication providers you choose, other users who invite you to Circles or Drops, service providers, security/moderation partners, and integrations you authorize.

4. Sensitive or Higher-Risk Data

Some features may process information that could be sensitive depending on what users choose to submit, including emotional reflections, personal context, relationship context, uploaded media, or AI conversations. Users should avoid submitting sensitive information unless it is necessary for the feature and they understand the context.

5. How We Use Information

  • Provide, operate, maintain, and secure Sammurai.

  • Create and manage accounts, settings, sessions, and authentication.

  • Enable Drops, responses, Circles, Daily Beat, Live Beat, Sammy chat, nudges, summaries, and AI-supported assistance.

  • Personalize the experience based on settings, interactions, and user-approved context.

  • Improve reliability, safety, product design, and user experience.

  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, spam, security incidents, policy violations, and unlawful activity.

  • Respond to support requests and communicate service updates.

  • Comply with law, enforce terms, protect rights, and defend legal claims.

6. AI, Personalization, Memory, and Profiling

Sammurai uses AI-supported features to generate prompts, summaries, recommendations, draft assistance, Drop insights, Daily Beat nudges, Live Beat summaries, classification, and safety support. Depending on the feature, AI may process profile context, content, preferences, activity history, metadata, and user-approved integrations. Sammurai does not intend for the current MVP to rely on solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

7. Legal Bases for Processing

Where laws such as GDPR, UK GDPR, POPIA, or similar frameworks apply, Sammurai may rely on contract, legitimate interests, consent, legal obligation, vital interests, or public interest where appropriate for the specific processing activity.

8. Sharing Information

Sammurai does not sell personal information. We may share information with service providers, infrastructure providers, security/moderation providers, analytics/support providers, affiliates, legal advisers, regulators, law enforcement where required, transaction counter-parties, and other users according to the feature’s visibility settings.

9. Visibility and Sharing Controls

Public Drops may be visible to broader permitted audiences. Circle Drops and Circle activity are visible to authorized Circle members. Private content is intended for the author and Sammy, subject to internal safety, security, legal, and retention requirements. Anonymous and hidden-author controls affect presentation, but internal ownership and moderation linkage may still be retained.

10. International Transfers

Sammurai may process or store information in countries other than where a user lives. Where required, Sammurai uses appropriate safeguards such as contractual protections, lawful transfer mechanisms, or equivalent safeguards.

11. Retention

Sammurai retains account and profile information while the account is active. After account deletion, this information may be retained for a limited period where needed for legal, security, audit, or dispute purposes.

Drops and responses are retained according to the applicable feature rules, expiry settings, visibility settings, deletion settings, and safety or moderation requirements.

Sammy interactions and AI metadata may be retained where needed to provide memory, product continuity, safety, troubleshooting, and product improvement. This retention is subject to user controls and applicable deletion rules.

Support and security records are retained for the limited period needed to resolve issues, investigate abuse, and meet operational or legal obligations.

Backups and logs may persist for a limited backup or log lifecycle before they are deleted or de-identified.

12. Security

Sammurai uses reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information, including access controls, encryption where appropriate, logging, monitoring, least-privilege access, secure development practices, and vendor review. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

13. Rights and Choices

Depending on location, users may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, object to, restrict, or withdraw consent for certain processing. Requests can be sent to privacy@sammurai.com. Sammurai may need to verify identity before processing a request.

14. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Sammurai may use cookies, local storage, SDKs, pixels, and similar technologies for authentication, preferences, reliability, security, analytics, and communications where allowed. See the Cookie Policy for more detail.

15. Children’s Privacy

Sammurai is not intended for children under 13 and does not support an under-13 user path in the current MVP. If Sammurai learns it has collected personal information from a child under 13 without required consent, it will take steps to delete or de-identify that information as required by law.

16. Changes to This Policy

Sammurai may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, Sammurai will provide appropriate notice and, where required, request fresh consent or acknowledgement.
